Colchester Roman Festival 

When: Saturday 30th July – Sunday 31 July 2022. Opens 10:30am, closes 5pm.

Where: Lower Castle Park, St Peters Street entrance (Ryegate) Colchester, C01 1HL. FREE CAR PARKING IN KINGS MEADOW CO1 1 XN

Tickets: £5 per day per adult; £8 weekend pass. Children 13 and under go FREE when accompanied by an adult.

THIS wonderful event has a high educational value for all as well as being huge fun for the whole family. We have the Archaeological Trust and the Colchester Castle Museum helping us.

Its action packed with the famous ‘Britannia’ re-enactment fighters and performers accompanied by the Praetorian Guard.

One of Britain’s best the ‘Vicus’ will be displaying.”

Vulcanilia processions offering worship to the god of fire, Vulcan. 

Ballistas, archery, donkey rides, stalls, Roman food displays and to eat. Full bars, picnic areas.

Sit on a real Roman toilet and find out what the ‘Wrong end of the stick’ means.

A marquee with Roman artifacts from the Museum and the Archaeological Trust with experts on hand to guide you through.

There will be a unique ‘Meet the Authors’ marquee where you can meet a number of published authors who write about the Roman period.

The day will start with a blessing, in full toga, the Pro Quaestor Legati Pro Praetore Provinciae Britanniae. The magnus caseus (big cheese).
